HOME-STYLE CHICKEN & NOODLES

Homestyle Chicken and Noodles, old fashioned flavor with updated easy recipe.Homemade noodles from scratch was one of the specialties my mother always made for every holiday and special meal.  That was my inspiration for my Home-style Chicken and Noodles.

I was grocery shopping today and saw the frozen Reames Noodles in the freezer section.  I make home-style chicken and noodles so often in the fall and winter.   Since we have cooler weather this week, they are now on our menu.

I remember that my mother always cooked a big chicken, picked the meat  off of it, and used the broth for the noodles.  She mixed them up, rolled them out, cut them into long strips and let them air dry before cooking.  So much work!!!  She loved doing it and everyone loved eating them.  I never thought to get her recipe before she passed away.

My own children and grandchildren love chicken and noodles too.  I tried to come up with a much quicker recipe but to capture some of   that great flavor that  hers had.  My 15 year old granddaughter sent me a text one day asking for this recipe. I felt so honored and have taught all of my granddaughters to make this now.

This has very few ingredients and I think  it is more about the process that makes these so delicious.

These are perfect to try for Thanksgiving dinner.  I always  double the recipe. I also make them in the morning, let them set for a few hours, then reheat on a very low heat.   This process makes the broth become thicker and more flavorful.

  1. Pam, enjoyed reading your blog!! You are a special person and I know your grandchildren are treated with royalty.
Hard to believe our little ones are all grown up and now we get to love and spoil their off springs!

Will anxiously wait for your recipes to be posted!

    1. Oh Nancy Thank you so much. This blog thing is very new to me and needs a lot of work but I will get it cleaned up. We all have a lot of great recipes. I wish you & LouAnn would share some on there sometime. I know your grandchildren are treated like royalty!!!

  2. Pam, I had no idea what to fix for dinner a few nights ago. I was roaming around the grocery store and I remembered this recipe. I bought the ingredients and went home and fixed it. I couldn’t find Cream of Chicken soup with herbs so I used plain Cream of Chicken soup and added a teaspoon of Bouquet Garni from Penzeys Spices. It was wonderful! A definitely keeper of a recipe! Thanks so much for sharing!!!

    1. Thanks Sue. Glad you liked it. It is hard to find that soup sometimes but you had a great idea.

  3. I have to admit I have never made homemade noodles, but I have always loved chicken noodle soup. This looks and sounds sooo good. My husband loves soups as the weather cools, so this will be on my menu for sure!

    1. Thank you. The broth on this recipe gets thick if you let it set before serving, so it is a great side dish on Thanksgiving or to eat as a casserole.

  4. Yum! I love chicken soup. We haven’t been able to get those frozen noodles around here lately. I used to love them. We are still having lots of heat so soup will have to wait a while yet!

  5. This is a perfect cold weather recipe. I think adding the cream of chicken soup adds a totally new dimension to chicken and noodles. I will try this. Thank you for linking up with us at #blogginggrandmothers. I have shared your post on my social media. 🙂 See you next week.

  6. Another great meal from you! I can just smell it 🙂 Thank you Pamela for partying with us at Blogging Grandmothers Link Party. I shared your post on my social media sites.

  7. Decided that we need a good ole family dinner for Memorial Day. Found this quick & easy recipe. Made just enough for hubby & I, with leftovers for another night. I used 2 large chicken quarters and cream of celery soup, and half of a bag of dry egg noodles. So delicious! We have decided we will be making this on a regular basis. Very inexpensive to make. Thank you!

    1. Thank you! Thank you!! This just made my day. I make it year-round, to serve as a side dish at cook-outs up to holidays. All of my grandkids actually eat it too. So happy you liked it. I have used cream of celery soup previously. Works great.

    2. Hey, I’m having to use dry egg noodles too. Do you boil the noodles in water and drain them first, or boil them dry in the chicken stock and just add stuff then?

      1. Hi. I would just cook them dry in the chicken stock, then add the stuff to them. I think they should turn out just fine. Please let me know. I hate when we can’t find ingredients we want, but that is what this year is about! Thank you so much.

  8. I just made these with leftover chicken breast from yesterday. Cooked it ahead for dinner when we get back from shopping. Smelled so good the family had to try it before I put it in the fridge. This was so delicious and EASY!

    1. Thank you so much!!!! It is so easy but adds a little more flavor than just boiling the noodles in water.

  9. Cooked this recipe 3 times now. Fabulous! Brings back memories or my grandma making homemade noodles that seemed to cover every counter in the kitchen. Thank you for taking my family and I back to the best of times.

    1. Awww thank you!!! That is so kind. That’s how my mother made them too. I tried so hard to come up with an easier version that still had rich flavor. My grandkids like them real well too. You made my day!

    1. Aww thank you so much. My mother made such awesome homemade noodles from scratch but I never got her recipe and I would not probably ever be able to make them right. This is so simple and does taste better than just cooking the frozen noodles. Thank you again for being so kind.

  10. Fabulous and easy new favorite meal at our house. I have made it several times and we always get to have two meals in our 2 person household. My husband thinks it is best ever! Tonight just for grins I threw in some peas at the end. Hope it still tastes good, just thought a little color would be fun!

    1. Thank you so much!! You are so sweet. Peas will be delicious in it. Thank you for trying the recipe and taking time to write this comment.

    1. Hi. Honestly I’m not sure because I have never tried it. I always have some leftover too and have to give it away. The next time I make it, I will put some in a container to test it., If you do try to freeze some please let me know. I’m sorry I don’t have an answer. Thank you.
