When the calendar page gets turned to September, it is the time I’m excited to start doing our Fall Cookie Baking. The kitchen becomes filled with the aroma of freshly baked cookies and all is right with the world.
Whether you are looking for a cookie to enjoy with a cup of coffee or tea, something special for a family gathering, or a sweet treat to share with friends, these fall cookie recipes are a wonderful place to start.
Why You’ll Love These Fall Cookies
This collection brings together some of my favorite cookies for fall baking. There are warm pumpkin spice flavors, caramel apples, cranberry and orange, buttery shortbread, and plenty of peanut butter and chocolate. Whether you’re baking for your family, filling a cookie tray, or looking for something to take to a fall gathering, you’ll find a cookie here to suit the occasion.
BUTTERSCOTCH PUMPKIN SPICE COOKIES
Soft, chewy cookies filled with pumpkin spice and butterscotch morsels. These Butterscotch Pumpkin Spice Cookies have warm pumpkin spice flavor, sweet butterscotch, lightly crisp edges, and a soft center.

CARAMEL APPLE CINNAMON ROLL COOKIES
Caramel apples and cinnamon rolls come together in these irresistible cookies. A buttery cookie dough is rolled with cinnamon sugar, finely diced apples, and caramel bits, then sliced into pretty swirls and baked until lightly golden. They are then topped with a mascarpone cheese glaze.
CARAMEL APPLE SNICKERDOODLES
These cookies take everything you love about a classic Snickerdoodle and add two delicious fall flavors: caramel and fresh apples. The cookies are soft and buttery in the center with lightly crisp edges, and every bite has the warm flavor of cinnamon sugar, sweet caramel, and tiny pieces of apple.
Fancier Fall Cookie Baking Ideas
CRANBERRY ORANGE PECAN SNICKERDOODLES
Cranberry, orange, and pecans bring a slightly different flavor to these Snickerdoodles. They are sweet, nutty, and full of bright citrus flavor, making them a wonderful choice for fall cookie trays and holiday baking. After baking, the bottoms (OR A SIDE) of the cookies are dipped in melted white chocolate, adding just the right amount of sweetness and making these cookies especially pretty on a holiday cookie tray.
FILLED AND STAMPED SHORTBREAD COOKIES
These beautiful shortbread cookies are perfect when you want something a little more special. The centers are filled with a variety of preserves. Their delicate texture and pretty stamped design make them especially nice for serving to guests or giving as a homemade gift.
Peanut Butter Cookies
PEANUT BUTTER TOFFEE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE
Soft, chewy, and loaded with peanut butter, toffee bits, and melty chocolate chips, these cookies are the ultimate addition to your fall baking lineup. A drizzle of melted chocolate and a final sprinkle of toffee on top makes them irresistible.
TRIPLE PEANUT BUTTER COOKIE DELIGHTS
These are soft, chewy peanut butter cookies loaded with three favorite candies: Reese’s Pieces, M&M’s, and mini peanut butter cups. They are colorful, fun to make, and are a delicious way to use leftover Halloween candy.
Tips for Fall Cookie Baking
Some of these recipes allow me to mix up cookie dough ahead of time, scoop it into balls and freeze in Ziploc Freezer bags. This is so handy to just pull the amount you need out of the freezer and have warm, fresh baked cookies.
Another thing that I do is to bake cookies ahead and freeze them in Ziploc freezer bags. I place the freezer bags in airtight containers. There are so many great containers at the Dollar Tree.
Fall is a great time to bake a few different kinds of cookies and keep them on hand for family, unexpected guests, or a weekend treat. Many of these recipes are also wonderful choices for cookie trays and holiday cookie exchanges.
