Recently, my husband and I have enjoyed meals served in bowls—everything from salad bowls to protein bowls. It only made sense to try a breakfast version, and this one turned out to be a favorite.

What started as a board for two quickly grew into a generous spread that will easily feed four people.

INGREDIENTS

  • Ground sausage, browned
  • Bacon, cooked
  • Ham cubes
  • Grilled steak, cut in strips
  • Hash brown potatoes, browned
  • Home fries cooked and fried (I used little new potatoes)
  • Scrambled eggs
  • Fried eggs
  • Red and green bell peppers
  • Onions, diced
  • Jalapeno slices
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • Shredded Italian cheese blend
  • Salsa
  • Hot Sauce
  • Sausage gravy
  • Hollandaise sauce

INSTRUCTIONS

  1.  Plan the board:  Arrange the small bowls, dishes, mini skillets where they will set on the board.  Doing this ahead of time makes it come together quicker.
  2. Cook the meats:  Brown the sausage, cook the bacon and steak.  I used some leftover steak that I already had.
  3. Prepare the potatoes: Cook the hash browns and home fries.
  4. Prep the vegetables and sauces: Chop the peppers and onions. Prepare the gravy mix and Hollandaise sauce. (packaged mixes work well and save time)
  5. Cook the eggs last:
Make scrambled eggs and fried eggs just before assembling so they stay fresh and warm.
  6. Assemble the board:
Place all ingredients on the board in sections or small bowls.

Serve immediately and let everyone build their own breakfast bowl.

  1. breakfast bowls: what a great idea for a brunch with friends or family–especially for our family that has some vegans and vegetarians among the carnivores. Everyone can build their own breakfast, depending on the diet of the day

    1. Thank you. The foods we could put on there are endless. You are right that it would be perfect for a family or guests with different food habits. I have a daughter that has to eat gluten free so I can easily add things for her.
