WONDERBAG REVIEW AND A GIVE-AWAY

This post is in partnership with Wonderbag.  However, all
thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

I am so excited to share my review of the Wonderbag and give you a chance to win one of your own.

Review of the Wonderbag and ideas on its use.

The first question is WHAT in the world is a Wonderbag?

“A Wonderbag is a non-electric, portable slow cooker! It
continues to cook food that has been brought to a boil by
conventional methods for up to 12 hours without electricity or fuel”.

I first saw this a few months ago on Food Network.  The episode was on tailgate parties, and they talked about how the food continued cooking and stayed warm for up to 12 hours in the Wonderbag.

It can also be used as a cooler bag.

After seeing the episode, I went to my computer and ordered one.

I go to a lot of covered dish events, so I felt this would be something I would get a lot of use out of.

HERE is a link to the Wonderbag website.

The price is $55-$65.  A bag can be purchased from the website as well as Amazon.  They come in different colors and prints.

Mine arrived in a medium size box.  The Wonderbag  is shrink wrapped in plastic.

Directions were clear on how to open the bag.

I enlisted the help of my husband and son because I didn’t
want to do it wrong.

Pull drawstring and the foam will regain it’s shape.

I wanted to see what the actual temperature was of the pan within the bag, so I started by testing boiling water.

Bring a dutch oven with water to a full boil for 10 minutes.

In 2 hours… Pan was very hot, steamy when lid opened, temperature was 175 degrees.

(I re-boiled the water for 10 minutes between each check)

In 4 hours… Hot, steamy and temperature 175 degrees

In 6 hours… Hot, small amount steam, temp. 140 degrees

In 8 hours… Pan hot, no steam, temperature 125 degrees

The Wonderbag comes with a cookbook. I have also seen
other recipes on line.

Here are some of the foods that I have tested in my Wonderbag and the results that I found.

SOUPS:  The next few days I tried different soups.  After
cooking potato soup, vegetable soup, and chili, I placed the
pot in the bag and they continued to slowly simmer until I
took the pot out after 6 hours.  The soups were delicious.
This would be so handy if taking them to a tailgate party or
covered dish event.  It was nice to have the soup warm when I opened the bag.

HOT DOG SAUCE & WIENERS:  We were heading to the country one afternoon and would be having hot dogs for a
picnic later that afternoon.  I prepared my hot dog sauce, added the wieners and placed it in my Wonderbag.  When we ate, about 6 hours later, everything was still hot and the flavors had blended together great.

HERE is my hot dog sauce recipe.

CHICKEN AND NOODLES:  Fall is here to stay in WV so that means comfort food meals.  After putting this dish together one morning, I placed it in my Wonderbag and ran errands for the day.

When I came home, the kitchen smelled so good!  Our dinner was totally warm enough to serve straight from the bag.  This is one of those recipes that tastes even better after it sets for a few hours, and I did not worry about the noodles sticking or burning.  This never happens in this bag.

HERE is my recipe for this dish.

My personal opinion is that I love using this bag if I need to
transport food, keeping it hot or cold.  Besides tailgate parties, I can see using this for picnics, covered dish events , camping, or any time that I make a soup.

I can see that I will use it frequently this holiday season.

It will be great to make some dishes ahead and place them in the bag to keep warm until ready to serve.  Mashed potatoes,  side dishes, and cobblers are some things that come to mind.

Another advantage that I see in transporting food to a covered dish event is that you will not need to use your host’s oven to warm your dish up.

Just take it out of the bag and serve!

Since the holidays are right around the corner, I am also
looking over my Christmas list to see how many I can give
as gifts.  What a unique and useful gift!

I will keep trying new uses for this bag and give updates.

To enter the Give-Away and win a bag of your own, just
leave a comment saying how you would use this.

The winner will be drawn by an outside service on Nov 12th @ 8pm EST.
Winner will be notified by email and posted on this site.    Good Luck!

Thank you again to the Wonderbag company for giving me
this opportunity.

  1. Well what will they think of next? This is amazing! If I won it, I’d fill it with something like stew or soup and take it with me when I go to babysit grandkids for the day. Dinner would be hot and ready when mom and dad got home and we’d all eat together! I love this pretty color, too!

      1. THANK YOU so much, Pamela! I just re-read your suggestions for use and will be trying all of them soon. I have a feeling my 3 daughters are going to want one as soon as they see mine! How nice that the company donates a bag for each one sold – that’s real encouragement to get behind this company!

  2. I think, since the Wonderbag can be used for cold food too, I would use it to carry my chocolate delight. It would also be nice for potato salad etc.

  3. This bag seems to be the answer to taking foods to tailgates, parties, and the farm!! Can’t wait to hear how your other dishes turn out!

  4. This would be great to take food for a softball game. The teams always have a cookout at our tournaments and I could never think of anything to take that wouldn’t need heated up. This is a great solution to that problem.

  5. Where I come from we make a dish with rice boiled in milk after it comes to a boil you bring the lidded pot into your bed, wrap it up in the covers and let it finish cooking. This wonderbag would be wonderful for this dish to avoid messing up the bed covers!! Would love to win one and try it out.

  6. That is so cool! I love that you can use both hot and cold…and things continue to cook. My kids are in sports so we are out of town for tournaments. This would be a great way to give them a good meal instead of concession stand food and save money too! Thanks for sharing!!

  7. This is perfect for me. I can do food prep the night before for crock pot cooking. However there is no one home to turn it on. Having suffered a serious house fire a few years ago, I’m fearful of being gone all day with a crock pot plugged in. Wonderbag would be the perfect solution for me.

  8. I would LOVE to have this for all of our family cookouts as well as sporting events! I just love reading your blog! Especially seeing you cook and bake with the grandkids! We loved being your taste testers a few years ago! Thanks for sharing, as always!

    1. Thank you. I follow along on Facebook with your family and cannot believe how I have seen your children grow up.

  9. I have heard of the wonder bag… Also wanted to try one, what a awesome way to cook food. Glad you tried one and reviewed it. I was really doubtful on how well it would cook…

  10. Would be great for wiener roast to keep hot dog sauce hot and for dinners to keep food hot, would love to win this !!!!

  11. This would be great for soups and stews when you are doing a lot of jobs around the house or running errands and can’t stop to make sure it hasn’t cooked down too much. Or better yet for us older ones, it would be perfect as we couldn’t forget to check the pot!!! Can’t wait to try it.

  12. Great to take to my daughters with homemade chili both live away and this would be so nice to cook something and take it to them

  13. I would love to use this bag while attending pot luck holiday dinners and office pot lucks as well! I think it would be perfect for a cool, autumn picnic at the park with a warm chili and some hot cocoa!

  14. Never seen anything like this but what a great idea! I’d use this for all those times I’m out and about with the kids at various sports, theater, music etc – instead of running through the drive thru in between events it would be great to have this in the car keeping dinner warm!

  15. What a great idea! What will they come up with next? If I won it I’d use it for tailgate parties, and bringing yummies to get togethers with friends and family.

  16. I think it would be a great thing to take food to my dad and have it still be hot when we ate. I think it would be great to take to church dinners for hot or cold. I’ve bever heard of them, interesting item, thanks Pam

  17. I need about 5 of these!! I host teacher luncheons at my children’s school as well as another school. One problem we have is very limited electrical outlets to keep crock pots and warming pads hot. These sound amazing and would get a great workout at my home!!

  18. I’ve never heard of these before and it will be on my list of things to buy! I can already see me using this at the condo and taking out on the boat.

  19. I would love this to serve a hot snack to the young children in my class at outdoor school. We are outside for over 2hrs in the winter and I’m curious if this would work.

    1. What a beautiful use for this! I am so sorry that this Give-Away ended last night. I have not tested mine out in the cold yet, but I do believe I read something about that on their website. I feel sure it would still be hot in just that time frame.
