Labor Day Side Dishes
The last big holiday of summer is almost here, and it is the perfect time to gather with family and friends for one more cookout before fall arrives. At our house, Labor Day is all about good food, relaxing, and enjoying time together.
School is back in session, the leaves are just beginning to turn, and cooler days are right around the corner—but first, we celebrate with some of our favorite summertime dishes.
Here is a collection of Labor Day side dishes that we love and will be serving this year. Scroll through and find a few favorites to add to your menu!
Here in West Virginia, hot dogs are a must at just about every cookout. Even when we are grilling steaks, burgers, or chicken, you can count on hot dogs being on the menu.
This homemade hot dog sauce brings back memories of old-time drive-ins. It is cooked in a unique way—boiled in water—to create that fine, crumbly texture we all love. With just the right balance of sweet and heat, it’s no surprise this has been the #1 recipe on my blog for years.

If you love a classic cheesy hash brown casserole but want something with a little extra kick, this Firecracker Potato Casserole is just the recipe to try. Made with frozen Potatoes O’Brien, spicy sausage, jalapenos, and melty cheese, this bold and flavorful dish is perfect for summer cookouts, potlucks, and holiday gatherings like the 4th of July or Labor Day.

A classic cookout favorite that never goes out of style. These baked beans are sweet, savory, and always a hit with both kids and adults.

Simple, creamy, and always one of the first dishes to disappear from the table. You can never go wrong with a platter of deviled eggs.
Sometimes, your cookout will just be with 2 or 3 people, but you don’t have to give up all of the special foods that go with that occasion. We are empty nesters, so I created this board for my husband and I. I made all of our favorites, just in smaller amounts.

A true comfort food side dish. This creamy potato salad is made the old-fashioned way and pairs perfectly with any grilled meat.

My daughter has a beautiful lake on her property, and that is where many of our family gatherings take place. Everyone brings a few side dishes and desserts, while her family provides the main meats.
We spend the day swimming, fishing, laughing, and of course—enjoying lots of good food together. Those are the moments that make holidays like Labor Day so special.
No matter the size of your gathering, all of these Labor Day Side Dishes recipes can easily be made in smaller or larger portions to fit your needs.
Don’t Forget Dessert!
