Happy Labor Day week-end!
We have a very large family, but this Labor Day week-end we will not be able to get together. I still like to celebrate with a Labor Day cook-out but since it will just be Grandpa Bob and I, the menu needs to be scaled down.
Keep it festive. Decorate your table or cook-out area. That will still make if feel like a holiday.
Our weather is so hot that I think our picnic will be inside this year!
I want to share a collection of recipes/ food ideas to enjoy if your Labor Day cook-out will only be for 2 people.
This Burger and Hot Dog Board for 2 is a party on it’s own. I simply fix 2 hot dogs and 2 burgers with a variety of sides. Listed later in post are some of the scaled down sides recipes.
HERE is the Homemade Hot Dog Sauce Recipe. I make the full recipe and freeze smaller containers to pull out for parties of 2.
Creating a Food Board is a great idea. Super Chef Salad on a Board.
If you prefer a big sandwich to share, this Picnic Focaccia is awesome.
Other Main dish choices for your Labor Day cook-out:
Filet Mignon
Steak or Chicken Kabobs
Sliders . We like chicken or beef sliders.
Side Dishes offer many options for Labor Day:
Potato Salad. This delicious homemade potato salad recipe is scaled down so you will have plenty but not an enormous bowl full of it.
Here is the recipe for the Baked Beans. When making them for 2, I use the small can of Bush’s Pork n Beans.
Desserts round off the menu:

This Mini Citrus Bundt Cake with Lemon Curd and Raspberry Sauce is perfect for Labor Day Recipes for 2. It includes so many fresh flavors of the season. Recipe HERE
There is no reason not to celebrate a Labor Day cook out with only 2 people. Just chose a few of these ideas and have a great day.
I should not have looked at this before eating because now I want everything! Good thing I’m not headed to the store or I would buy everything! Hope you have a great holiday weekend.
You are great!! I hope your family has a wonderful holiday week-end too.
This year it was just me and hubby too. Once the school year begins, the day turns into more of a “getting the kids ready” time for my daughters with no room for picnicking. That’s okay with me, though. I’ve had a full, happy summer and it’s fun to start putting out the fall decor.
I am with you on this! I have my fall chores list ready and get excited to decorate for fall.
