The past few classes we have been working on breakfast recipes. We have done simple things like cooking bacon and eggs to making souffles, wraps, quiche, omelets, a crostada, and French toast. I wanted to teach them the art of making homemade cinnamon rolls, even if only this one time in their life. I know that most people don’t take time to do this anymore but I want them to remember doing this with me. Continue reading HOMEMADE CINNAMON ROLLS & KIDS COOKING CLASS
What a delicious way to celebrate National Strawberry Parfait Day! Continue reading HAPPY NATIONAL STRAWBERRY PARFAIT DAY
Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, but several of my grandchildren told me they do not like to eat breakfast. They prefer to eat a pop-tart, breakfast bar, or have a parfait. I wanted to show them a variety of foods they could make and would probably like to eat. We came up with some old and new breakfast specialties. When I am asked to donate something for fundraisers, I go through my list of foods that have been the most popular. I like to send things other than hot dogs, pizza, or nachos.
One easy recipe is sugar cookies that have been cut out with alphabet cookie cutters, then decorated with their team colors. I add them to cookie bags and tie with team color ribbons. My recipe for Decorated Sugar Cookies
Another fun treat is Pepperoni Rolls. I think they may be a food common in WV but not some other states. We always make them for parties, tailgates, race weekends, camping, and any sports event. My children knew how to make them when they went to college and their friends always wanted them. When my son moved to Denver, Co the people he met were not familiar with them so now he has them hooked!
My step son and his beautiful fiancé got married last week. She loves everything Disney, so she planned her wedding with a Disney princess theme. They requested the rehearsal dinner be a cook-out at our house. I wanted to make this special for them, so Bob and I created a Disney princess themed rehearsal cook-out. School is now officially out here, so the grandchildren and I are going to try to get together more regularly for kids cooking classes. I told them they could include their friends, so our classes may grow this summer. Continue reading KIDS COOKING CLASSES, WEEK 4
The first goal for Week 3 cooking class was to learn what we call wet or dry ingredients and how to measure them. The second goal was to learn some differences between baking and cooking. Continue reading WEEK 3 COOKING CLASS FOR KIDS WITH GRANDMA HONEY
The main reason that I prefer RV travel is that you have all of the conveniences of home. There is a lot more space than a hotel room, and I am a germ-a-phobic person who hates to stay in hotel rooms. Continue reading RV TRAVEL..FUN AND TIPS
The level of detail I go into depends on the age of the children I am working with that day. The first goal for week 2 cooking classes is to expose the children to the different kinds of equipment we use in the kitchen. The second goal will be to become organized in the kitchen when cooking or baking. Continue reading WEEK 2 COOKING CLASSES FOR KIDS WITH GRANDMA HONEY
